What is a retirement readiness score?
A retirement readiness score is a 1–10 rating of how prepared you are to retire on your terms, based on your savings, income, protection, and estate planning. Frank Finly calculates yours from 13 questions in under 3 minutes, shows the dollar gap between where you are and where you need to be, and gives you the top 3 actions to close it.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and it’s not your fault.
Three things every pre-retiree quietly worries about.
“Am I behind?”
You’ve saved. You don’t know if it’s enough. Every article gives a different number. Your 401(k) statement shows a balance but no verdict.
“Where do I even start?”
401(k), IRA, Roth, Social Security timing, RMDs, taxes in retirement. You know these matter. You don’t know which one matters most for you, right now.
“I don’t want a sales pitch.”
Every calculator ends the same way: “Talk to an advisor.” You want a real diagnostic first. Then you’ll decide if you need help.

Here’s where most Americans stand
You’re not behind by accident — you’re part of a pattern. Here’s the landscape:
- •75% of Americans 45+ have no written retirement plan — not because they don’t care — because nothing has turned the abstract into a number.
- •Average readiness score for your peers: 4.9/10 — half the work to get to a confident 7+. You’ll see exactly which 2–3 gaps move the needle.
- •Users who act on their top 3 gaps gain 2+ points in 12 months — small changes compound. The score lets you watch that progress.

Frequently asked questions
What is a retirement readiness score?+
A retirement readiness score is a 1–10 rating that tells you whether you’re on track to retire the way you want. Frank Finly’s score weighs five dimensions — retirement savings, financial resilience, investments, protection, and estate planning — against your age, salary, and goals. A 7+ means you’re tracking well. 5–7 means there are specific gaps to close. Below 5 means act now, and we’ll show you how.
Can you retire on $500K? On $1 million?+
It depends less on the number and more on three things: how much you want to spend monthly, when you claim Social Security, and how long your savings need to last. Our score tells you which of those levers will move your result the most. Most Americans who think they need $1M actually need closer to $700K once Social Security is factored in — others need $1.5M+. The score shows your specific number.
Is this really free?+
Yes. The score, the dashboard, and the action plan are all free. Frank Finly is paid by the advisors we connect users with — you never are.
Do I have to give my phone number?+
No. Email only, and only to unlock the dashboard. Phone is never required unless you specifically ask to be matched with an advisor.
How accurate is the score?+
We use official IRS tables, Social Security Administration formulas, the 4% safe withdrawal rule, and current tax brackets. It’s a realistic estimate based on simplified assumptions. An advisor can refine it further.
What if my score is low?+
A low score is information, not a verdict. We’ll show you the top 3 actions — ranked by impact — to improve it. Most users can move a 4.8 to a 7+ within 12 months by closing 2–3 specific gaps.
Can I retire at 55? At 60? At 65?+
The score tells you your current projected retirement age. If you want to retire earlier than it shows, you’ll see exactly which levers (contribution rate, Social Security timing, debt payoff) would pull that age forward — and by how many years each.
Will you sell my data?+
No. Bank-level encryption, never sold, never shared without your permission.
How is this different from a "how much do I need to retire" calculator?+
Those give you a number ($1.2M!) with no context. We score five dimensions — so you see not just whether you’re behind, but where and why. And instead of a dollar figure you can’t act on, we give you ranked actions you can do today.
