Our Commitment to Accuracy

Frank Finly publishes educational content about retirement planning, taxes, and financial strategies. We take accuracy seriously — especially because retirement decisions affect people's livelihoods. This page explains how we create, verify, and update our content.

Where We Get Our Data

We rely on primary government and institutional sources for all figures and rules:

  • IRS.gov — contribution limits, RMD tables, tax brackets, qualified charitable distributions, and retirement account rules
  • Social Security Administration (SSA.gov) — benefit amounts, COLA rates, claiming ages, and taxation thresholds
  • Federal Reserve — Survey of Consumer Finances for savings statistics and household data
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) — inflation data, spending benchmarks, and cost-of-living metrics

We link to these sources in our articles where applicable. We do not cite third-party blogs or commercial sites as primary authorities for tax or benefit rules.

Who Reviews Our Content

Retirement and tax content is reviewed by professionals with relevant credentials. Articles involving tax rules, RMDs, Social Security, or Medicare are fact-checked for alignment with current IRS and SSA guidance. When we feature a named reviewer with CFP® or CPA credentials, that person has reviewed the article for technical accuracy.

Frank Finly itself is not a registered investment adviser or tax firm. Our content is informational — not personalized advice. See our Financial Disclaimer for details.

How Often We Update

We update content on two schedules:

  • Quarterly reviews — Major guides and calculator-adjacent articles are reviewed at least every three months to ensure limits, brackets, and benefit amounts reflect current tax years.
  • Legislative and regulatory changes — When Congress or the IRS publishes new rules (e.g., SECURE 2.0, OBBBA, annual inflation adjustments), we update affected articles within days to weeks.

Articles show a "Last updated" or publication date. When we make substantive changes, we update that date so readers know the content reflects the current tax year and rules.

Fact-Checking Process

Before publishing or updating an article, we:

  1. Verify all dollar amounts (limits, thresholds, brackets) against IRS, SSA, or other official sources for the stated tax year
  2. Cross-check any formulas (e.g., RMD life expectancy factors) against published IRS tables
  3. Ensure examples use realistic numbers and that calculations are internally consistent
  4. Add or update a "Sources" section for key articles, linking to primary sources where readers can verify the information

Corrections

If you believe we have made an error, please contact us. We will review the claim and, if warranted, correct the content and note the correction. For urgent tax or benefit questions, always consult the IRS, SSA, or a licensed professional.
